How would you describe your personality? Are you quirky, friendly, or creative? How about timid, nervous, and outgoing? Does anyone consider you as an extreme introvert or extrovert? Well, it all depends on your behavior. You are you because of your physical, spiritual, emotional, and psychological balance. No one is like you even though there are slight to significant similarities you may find with others. But how would you measure and know your personality? How can others describe your character?

Examining the differences between an individual’s characteristic is one of the concerns of behavioral psychology. There is an assessment of various characteristics combine, which creates a whole personality from the way of thinking and proper response. However, not all specialists agree with the study. Some of them believe that there is no way to quantify someone’s behavior. But due to ongoing research, psychologists end up finding an empirical approach. These include the theories of the trait that affects cognitive perspective.

The Importance Of The Behavioral Theories

In trait theory, experts focus on unconscious influences of an individual instead of his miss development. Psychology explains that personality gets define through lasting and stable behavioral patterns with conscious motivations. Unlike what people used to believe, the behavior is not something that always comes from the past. There are significant tendencies that it comes from a motive in the present. Meaning, an individual’s character might change depending on his desire and needs. Therefore, there is no consistency on what he should and should not become, what he should and should not do, and how he should and should not act.

The Fundamental Traits

Personality goes with fundamental traits. There is consciousness where a person is either careless and impulsive or careful and disciplined. Another one is openness, where a lasting impression of practicality battles with independent imagination. There is also an extraversion where an individual can become reserved and retiring instead of being friendly and affectionate. Also, a fundamental trait is agreeableness, where a person gets defined as ruthless and suspicious or trusting and soft-hearted. Lastly, neuroticism is also part of trait fundamentals because it represents both calmness and confidence and anxiousness and insecurities of an individual.

Each trait and characteristic exists on a specific spectrum. These traits are made to represent a hypothesized pattern that aims to predict a person’s behavior and attitude. However, not because there is a category of fundamental characteristics, it does not mean there is no way for these behaviors to flex a little in certain situations. Under the right condition, an individual’s personality is a prediction of the average practice. Meaning, the individual’s respond gets based on what is currently in front of him and not by what he previously often do or know.
